Bee-Mine Weddings - Let Us Take The Sting Out Of Your Day

I have been neglecting my blog and I shouldn't be.  Blogging is part of the world today and gets ideas out there and gives me a chance to speak.  Also really what can be said that already hasn't been said.  Well I thought that and well it was Randy from Kleinfeld's that gave me an ideal to focus on the grooms.

At Kleinfelds they are now offering men's wear.  I think that is fabulous.  This is an area that really isn't focused.  Yes there are ads in the bridal magazines but really what is out there for them.

While at the WPIC conference in November last year, one of the speakers was Simon Daykin.  Nice looking, hip, very stylish and well I wondered what he would talk about.  He is partners with his wife Ciara and together they have a wonderful business.  Yes they are planners and decor but Simon also his own blog for men.

He and his wife own their business out in Calgary and they take decor to the extreme...he does a lot of his own designs and when he talks about them he is very funny.  Lovely couple and so glad someone is out there for the men.

As I was sitting in a bridal shop with my bride Freya, she was getting the bridesmaids dreses...her one bridesmaid brought her fiance and his reaction to being there was like it was sacred territory where he shouldn't be.  He was afterall the only man there.

I think more grooms should get involved and get out there more and ask questions and have his ideas used.  Some have great ideas.

I am here for the groom as well.  After all it is his day as well, right??

Until next time...take care...

In case you skipped the about us page, we have added a new feature to our company.  The idea came to me when one of Mike's friends told him that he is getting married.  Mike gave him my name, how sweet and told him I would be in contact with him.

I emailed him thinking that they have the date set and want some help with the wedding.   What I didn't know was that he hasn't even proposed yet.  He is scared to here the answer as well.

I talked to him and told him that when he is ready I would be glad to help him out on the proposal.  I gave him some hints as to what and when not to do it.

Every woman dreams of their proposals....ok not all but many do.  Some men are very romantic in that department and go all out.  Proposals at half time at a football game, or basketball or even hockey game.  Romantic holidays on the beach.

Some just say hey lets get hitched.  Not my favourite way, however to each his own.  I want to be able to help the guy or gal who wants to propose and not sure how.  I will help personalize it for them to make it memorable.

We will even get a photographer there to capture the moment they say yes.  One thing is the make sure it is their day...not a holiday but a day you pick that will be special to the both of you.   The day you first fell in love, the day of your first date...just make it special.

Dates you can and still special but so over done.
Christmas
Birthday
New Years
Valentines
July 1
July 4

So if you are in need, give me a call and we will make it a day to remember...Your day!!  Until next time....take care...

The other night I was surfing the web looking for videographers and I decided to deviate away from my search to take a look at slice.ca  no particular reason but what I saw was yet another reality show I am looking forward to.

For me I love reality shows.  Not all but the majority.  Anything bridal of course is the best.  Say Yes To The Dress, Rich Bride Poor Bride, Wedding SOS just to name a few.   I did enjoy the Bridezilla one until they took it off.

So as I am looking I went to the casting call and found a new show they are going to have.  Rich Groom Poor Groom....I gather from reading the brief synopsis that it is basically the same as Rich Bride Poor Bride but the grooms who want to take over the planning of the wedding.

I can't wait for that to come out.  I know I will be banished to the living room for this one as well...lol...Mike doesn't like reality tv and prefers me to watch them in the living room on the big tv....Mom and I will be watching for sure...I can't wait...

What reality wedding shows do you watch.  Let me know....Until next time...take care and keep smiling.

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE!!!!  2010 is going to bring so much fun and happiness to everyone...How do I know??  Well because I am being optimistic!

Congratulations if you were engaged over the Christmas season.  It is a magical time of the year to get engaged.  My cousin Stephanie was engaged at Christmas time several years ago.  Now she has two beautiful daughters with her husband Perry.

So now that you are engaged, starting to plan your wedding and you are feeling stressed.  You have the date, you know who you want in your wedding party.  Now what.  Where to begin.  Well two major things need to be addressed...Date, and where.

You know the date but the where you are not sure.  You know where but not sure of the date.  Well, relax.  If you are having a church or synagogue wedding, get that date first.  Personally if you have the church and the day, the rest will fall into place.  However, if you really want that banquet hall and you have a date in mind and it is a popular one...best to get the banquet hall.

This is the beginning of your planning.  But why stress, let me help you.
I offer you several types of service.  I will be with you the entire time if you want full wedding coordination.  Or if you want a day/month of coordination or if you are just looking for a consultation.

I don't offer fancy names for my services, just plain honest work.  My dedication speaks for itself.  If I can't sleep, I am working, if I am sleeping I am still working.  Ask Mike, he has seen me up more nights working on weddings than sleeping.

Sending emails to vendors at 2:00 a.m. is not unusual for me.  So give me a call and lets talk about your day and we can make it memorable.  And if you want to talk about Rich Bride Poor Bride or Randy from Say Yes To The Dress....I won't mind...I love my bridal shows.

Also this year, I am also certified for destination weddings.  I am Sandals Certified and Super Clubs certified and can help you plan the perfect away wedding.

Until next time, make 2010 count.  Give Bee-Mine Weddings a shout...let us take the sting out of your day!!

Tuesday December 29, 2009

Well it is several days after Christmas as you can see and yes I actually forgot to post my blog on the 25th of December but Mike and I were busy cooking dinner together.  That is becoming our annual tradition where we cook the dinner together and my mom sets the table.

Mom and Mike were up first.  I thought I would sleep in and although not too late, but I got up and got my nintendo ready to use and my camera.  I take pictures every year of us opening up our gifts.  Even though I know what i am getting every year, it is still fun to act as if I don't.

Mike, isn't into this as much as Mom and I are because we have always exchanged gifts.  Mike really has never celebrated holidays much.  As a child, he never celebrated Christmas, birthdays, halloween, easter, mothers day or fathers day.  It just wasn't celebrated in his family.

Yes, he must have celebrated with other lady friends but you don't celebrate until you celebrate my style.  I like to make believe I still believe in Santa Claus (yes, I have a Santa suit, custom made and a Mrs. Claus dress) so I like to keep things like that alive.

So I get all excited about any gift, doesn't matter the size or what it is...I love gifts from the heart.  This year, however as Mike did not get me a birthday present, I got a piece of jewelry that I love.  A heart shaped diamond necklace.  Love it.

So there is the necklace that Mike bought me.  I love it and it certainly does sparkle.  He also bought my mom, a gorgeous leather purse.  He picked it out himself.  Oh we didn't forget Mike.  I got him a knife block for the chef's knife that I got him for his birthday last month.  Of course some other things as well, one of which has to be returned due to colour.

Now that Christmas is over with, we can now focus onour 3rd anniversary that is coming up on January 1, 2010.  We will spend New Year's day watching a 3 Stooges marathon that goes into the night.  We love the 3 Stooges....that was what we watched every Saturday morning on his computer.  So this is perfect for us.  Then on January 1, we will go out for lunch/dinner at our new fave restaurant.  Jawny Bakers.  Good food!!!!

So we will start 2010 off great.  I am so looking forward to 2010.  New achievements, new goals, new weddings, new brides....I wish everyone a wonderful and safe New Year's and please don't hesitate, if you are looking for a committed Wedding Coordinator, give me a call.

Until next time...stay safe...

I would like to wish everyone one on behalf of Mike, my Mother Lorraine and myself a very Merry Christmas.  May you all be surrounded by love and family this weekend.

I am not very sentimental, not to say that I don't love the sentiment, but I am not one for mushy stuff...I love funny cards, and nice things but when someone gets me a sentimental card, I tend to fall apart.  So I like to keep it light and airy and funny for cards be it Christmas or any other reason to give them.

Now one of my favourite movies and I have many faves at Christmas time, is White Christmas.  My Mother bought me tickets the first year Mike and I were together and the three of us went on Christmas eve and although the production was good, I prefer the movie.

The year before that, I bought my mom tickets for the Christmas Eve production with the Rockets and mom said that was the best Christmas present she ever got.

Over the years, we try to think of good presents to get for the one's we love and yes I find it hard every year to get Mom that present she will love.  She doesn't need new clothes because she really doesn't go out much now.  She finds it harder with being on oxygen and getting around as she is getting older is harder on her.

But I know tomorrow morning she will be busting a seam for Saturday December 26th as she gets ready to go to the theatre once again to see the Toronto production of the Jersey Boy's.  Mike and I bought mom the tickets for Christmas.  Along with that, Mike, not only picked out but got mom a gorgeous leather purse.  I got the wallet to go with it.

What did I get Mike?  Well, I got him two new work shirts, a knife block to go with the knife I bought him for his birthday and an afternoon of peace and quiet.

I know what Mike got me, but I won't tell you until tomorrow.  Mom, got me a Matt Dusk cd, his new one, Good News and a game for my ninetendo ds.

Will it be a great Christmas?  Yes, it will.  As long as we are together as a family, it will be a great one.  Mike and I will cook the dinner together.  I am making homemade cranberry sauce with canned ones for back up.

Please be safe this holiday season and remember, if you want to propose to your partner and don't know how, let me help you out.  If you have or are prepared to propose, why not give that extra, a wedding planner.

I know a dedicated one who would love to help you out!  Until tomorrow, may you be safe and have a Merry Christmas and may Santa be good to all.

Have you thought what you would like to get your sweetheart for Christmas??? Well there are thousands of not so ordinary gifts out there.  Why settle on the usual piece of Christmas ware.  After all you have registered for gifts at Sears, William Ashley's, Tiffany's, The Bay etc....right???  So you don't need a cappuccino maker now because you may get it from Uncle Fred and Aunt Ethel for your wedding.

personally i like unique gifts.  Besides my usual standard of jewelry, because those who know me well, know jewelry is my best friend.  However, I found something that I would love to get and will be getting soon enough.

A friend that I use to work with, he and his wife are artists.  Mary Lou does paintings of the north of Ontario, like Algonquin Park, John takes photos of different things...there is one piece of his that is fanscinating.  It is of a rock formation at the Scarborough Bluffs and in it I can see different shapes and faces....almost like looking at clouds.

His wife has the most fascinating paintings of the park and in all different  colours. When I get a permanent office, I will be getting these, if not sooner. They are now on my list for Christmas presents.  For me, who loves the wilderness, well ok to look at because as one of my friends, Yoonsun says, she can't see me living up north.  I am too citified.  But it is the mystic of the woods, the animals that live there and the cleanness of the air.

So if you are looking for different gifts go to www.johnkuipers.ca or for Mary Lou's works go to www.mlkart.ca. Their works of art are something different, very Canadiana and a great idea to give as gifts.

If you have ideas for different types of gifts, email me at loriecollins@rogers.com, you could win two tickets for the movies for the best idea for a gift.

Until next time enjoy your Christmas shopping or what ever you celebrate.  For my Jewish friends, I wish you a Happy Hannakah!

You don't need to always be a bride in white.  Who says that we have to wear white for our wedding.  Yes, I know it symbolizes purity and all that but really why can't we wear a colour we love.  Personally me wearing white down the aisle or what might be an aisle will not be in white.

My favourite colour is blue.  I have always seen me wearing a blue sparkly ball gown...now i know after seeing my photo in a wedding gown, ball gown will not be one.  It will be blue and will sparkle but another style it will be.

You can look in magazines and get an idea for your perfect dress and really put your mark on your day.  Just like Tara Nolan from Canadian Gardening.com did for her recent wedding.

There was a dress in More magazine, a David Dixon dress and she loved it.  It was fuschia.  Please see the below blurb that appeared in More magazine.

The dress
Here’s proof that More does get read around the office.  From CanadianGardening.com and social media editor Tara Nolan: "I knew I wanted to wear fuchsia to my own wedding, so when I saw this David Dixon dress on page 76 of the November issue of More, I bought it right away and had it hemmed to the appropriate length by a local couturier. It was the perfect party dress — and I can wear it again!"

This was written by Jennifer Gruden, webmaster for More.ca and Tara Nolan, webmaster for Canadiangardening.com;  check out more stories in this months issue of More magazine at www.more.ca

This dress speaks volume of Tara, knowing her personality, this was the perfect dress for her to get married in.  She is stunning in everything she wears but I love the fact that she went the non traditional way.

For me, I like to see brides be non conventional.  Everyone wants their wedding unique and what better way than to wear a colour or totally different style to what people expect.

As a wedding planner, I have to think outside the box all the time, so why can't the bride.  Wear what is you...wear what is comfortable, where what you want.

My other vision for the day I get married, my feet will not be in high heels, they will be in my walking shoes...that will be my white for the day.

So again, make your day, you...let colour flow on your day and not just the flowers  Hot colours this year, fushica, green and black...at the Welcome Wagon show in Brampton, Ontario this Sunday, I will be there, with the flowers of the hottest colours this season.

Until next time, take care and think colour!!!

I have been giving a great deal of thought lately as to how my bride can honour her father at her wedding in August.  The usual ideas come to mind, candles, pictures etc....however I want something different.

They will have their parent's wedding pictures on display but there should be something special.  I have been searching for an answer.  I still don't have an answer but I will definitely come up with something.

For me, I won't have my fatherat my wedding if I ever get married.  He died two years ago.  After a long estrangement we made contact again.  For me, I won't be making any celebrations as a huge wedding.  For me,it will be a small affair but I might put a corsage on his grave after the ceremony.

Honouring a loved one during this time of your life is not only showing your love for that person, but respect.  So if you have any ideas on how to honour a loved one that is unique, share it with me at loriecollins@rogers.com

We will post the different ways on our blog.

Until next time...take care and be safe..

Well I made it back from Turks and Caicos recharged and ready to go again.  Now that I am fully designated for Destination Weddings and of course Tico certified, I have to tell you that I am pumped about the Sandals/Beaches resorts.

We stayed for our conference at the Beaches resort which boasts a Sesame Street Camp for children.  So those who have children coming to their weddings, they can be entertained and watched by the trained Nannies there.

From my room one afternoon before dinner, the lawn below us became some sort of play area.  Well it turns out that Abbey Caddabby came to entertain the children.  There were adults there with their children and the nannies and there are 3 children per adult, they were singing the alphabet song.  It was not loud or annoying so one doesn't mind.

I was amazed at how the resort was full but you would have never known it.  I stayed in the Caribbean village, while other members of the alumni stayed in the Italian village.  It is clean, and very airy.

This resort is good for families, singles, couples, and seniors  There is something to do for everyone.  My cousin played water volleyball, bingo and went to the club in the evening.  They have lots for kids of all ages to do.  They have club liquid, a non alcholic club.  They have Scratch DJ Academy.  Of course Club Sesame Street.

I had the pleasure of meeting several characters, Cookie Monster, The Count, Elmo, Ernie and Abbey of course.  The characters do wonder the resort.

They have the most amazing water park where in the evening one night, some of our wedding planners, topped off the beach session of trashing the dress with the waterpark.  The lazy river, water slides, they have a restaurant in the ship.

This resort boasts 16 restaurants and I challenge anyone to try and eat at all 16.  The food is amazing, it is all inclusive.  They have a variety of food for all tastes and if you have allergies or dietary concerns, in the lobby is the chef and you can talk to them and let them know.

The staff, I can't say how nice it was to have someone walk by you and smile a good morning, hello ladies, how are you today....It caught me off guard at first but you learn fast.  This is the Beaches way.

Weddings there are beautiful.  You can have it anywhere on the property and there are numerous places to have it that are simply stunning.   They have an onsite wedding coordinator there, however I do suggest hiring a coordinator here to get things set up.  They have a photoshop which will act as the official photographer but you do have to book time and it won't be for long, so again, bring a photographer along with you.

Beaches and Sandals now offer Martha Stewart weddings and the packages go from simple to grand.  Whatever package you want, it will be spectacular.  Weddings at Beaches, children are welcome, however Sandals, they have to have a day pass and can only stay at the wedding location.

So if you really want children at your wedding, I suggest Beaches to have it at.

During our conference, we had speakers to offer us different aspects of wedding planning.  One thing about wedding planners is that we never stop learning new things to help our brides.  I am no different.  I have learned things that were fantastic from the best in the industry.

I had the pleasure of meeting Andy Ebon, Jo-Anne Brown who shared her  daughters weddings with us and their vision that their mother put together.  She is a wedding planner/designer in the Cayman Islands and is a joy to talk to.

We rocked with the husband and wife team of Simon Daykin who is a Rockstar Designer and Ciara Daykin who is a Rockstar Wedding Planner.  They were fun and Simon is an award winner who has become known for his trees. Yes trees....

Our keynote speaker was Sasha Souza and she was delightful and told us to think outside the box.  The whole time we were there was fabulous.

I should have stayed a little bit longer to finish seeing the entire resort.  But then there is an excuse togo back!!

If you want to go to any of the resorts, I recommend the Butler service.  Why, well why not??  Are you not worth being totally pampered while you are on your honeymoon, vacation or whatever???  This is a special treatment and I will have a follow up just on the Butler service.

I am going to post pictures of our trash the dress and some of the resort.  Until next time...be safe and remember if you want the best, give me a call!!

Well I am two days away from flying out for the Wedding Planners Conference in the Turks and Caicos Beaches.  This gives me an opportunity to see this location and what it offers.

From the website I can see that there are 16 restaurants to choose from.  This is going to be something to try and decide what to eat every night.  We are there for four days and we get time to soak up the sun and sand and still take a tour of the location.

Our conference will be intense and I get recertified for Sandals.  I am also proud to say that I passed my destination certification and my TICO exam.  So I am now fully certified to do destination weddings.

It has been a busy past few months.  Working full time on my wedding planning.  Also making time for my mother and her appointments.  She has been my biggest supporter of my new career and I thank her for that.

Oh yes at the conference we are having the largest trash the dress photo session.  The planners are getting into wedding gowns for  a photo shoot.  My cousin will be taking photos for me.

I have my gown and trying to figure out how to pack it in my suitcase.  So much to do before the conference.  Well I will post pictures of Beaches Turks and Caicos when i get back.  Unti

Well we are finally able to let the cat out of the bag.  Sandals and Beaches are proud to announce the marriage of Martha Stewart and Sandals and Beaches.

For those who were not aware that prior to the big announcement, one could purchase a wedding package from Preston Bailey collection, one of three with Sandals and Beaches.  However, I guess due to not many brides knowing who Preston Bailey was, unless you had tons of money or were a celebrity, it wasn't successful.

So Sandals and Beaches went with someone everyone is familiar with.  Martha Stewart.  They offer three packages of wedding styles.  I will get further details on the packages.

I will be getting a better look at these packages in November when I attend the Wedding Planners conference in Turks and Caicos in November.   I am excited to be able to bring to you the information and be able to send you brochures shortly.

Stay tuned for pictures on Martha Stewart wedding packages....

Until next time.

I just wanted to wish everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving to my Canadian friends.  I wish all brides a wonderful wedding day and may you have truly a beautiful and blessed life.

Thanksgiving always has been  a fun weekend for me.  Sometimes it is just my mom and myself, the past couple of years it has been my mom, Mike and myself.

Spending time  with family is also been within ou realm.  We have also gone to my cousin's house to spend a wonderful thanksgiving dinner.

So what are you thankful for this year?  Me , I am thankful that I have a wonderful mother who believes in what I do and supports me in my sometimes wacked out ideas.  But lately, if she hadn't pushed me into my dream career, I wouldn't haven't have done it.

I am thankful for my boyfriend and the love we share.  The past two years have been great.

Family and friends, great support and lots of fun...

Here is to everyone having a very full belly on thanksgiving.

until next time...

Well fall has arrived, right now I am looking out my office window and seeing the leaves turning brillant orange and reds.  I love the fall time and the colours and smells.

More and more weddings are happening in the fall.  Not the traditional time of the year.  Some venues are cheaper as well as vendors.  Think of your photos and the colours that will make your pictures pop.

For me, there is only one day of the fall time that I would consider getting married.   That would be October 31.  Why halloween??  It is a special time of the year for me and I just love halloween.

A friend married his lovely bride on October 31 on the day, civil then had a huge party on the weekend.  Everyone in costume. It was great to see everyone dressed up.  Not your tradtional wedding.

If my boyfriend was to ever ask me to marry him, I know exactly the day, lol....For me it would be an easy decision.  I have the perfect spot that I want my wedding photo done.  Mind you I would have to dodge cars but that would matter.

So tell me why you would want a halloween wedding and would you go traditional or go all out and have everyone dress up??

What would your decorations look like??  Well until next time take care!

I am getting excited...November 14, 2009, I take off to go to Turks and Caicos...we are having our wedding planner conference there this year.  I can't wait to see sun, warmth, white sandy beaches and taking a wedding gown to do a trash the dress session.  We are hoping that all the planners that go may be able to do this photo session and that the Beaches resort will take the pictures.

To be able to wear a wedding gown without being close to the altar is going to be my dream....well it would be nicer to be at the altar but that may come in time.  That is if my boyfriend wants to propose to me.

But to be in this location and learning more about destination weddings and soon to be able to do them is a treat.  As a planner I want to be able to offer great services to my brides.

So look for another designation coming my way....so off to study for my TICO so I can serve bridal couples better.

Till next time...

Well summer showed up just in time to close out the summer...lol...but despite the wonky weather I have been busy working as an assistant to other lead planners, placing ads in Today's Bride, great issue, if you haven't already picked it up...please do and check out my ad in the classified section.  I am also having the do my TICO license in order to sell or do destination weddings.  Oh and I finished my exam for that.  Just waiting for the results.

In the past week there has been a wedding planner that has made headlines here in Toronto.  No, she wasn't certified like I am ....she did run a business and although I do not know the whole story on her, I will not pass judgement as to her training.

So many brides do not want a planner on board but it can be times like this when having a certified planner comes in handy.  We have to adhere to a code of ethics, we have the support of a great team and other planners.  If for some reason we can't be there, we have back up and a pool of other planners willing to help out.

I am so glad I took the course and I have been learning and getting more training since last October.  We are going to have our conference in Beaches, Turks and Caicos and again, it will be 4 days of 9 - 4 training and learning.  I am learning more now than I did when I was in school.

As a certrifed wedding coordinator my traning and learning will never end...I plan on keeping up and learning about new trends, destinations etc to keep my clients informed.

A certified wedding coordinator can be your best friend on the day and those leading up to it....keep that sunscreen on until next time...

Saturday July 25, 2009

It is hard to believe that sometimes time just flies by.  On July 23, 2009 it would have been my parents wedding anniversary.  It would have been over 50 years married...

How many people today can say they have been married for more than 7 years..??  I know many, but sometimes I find we just give up too easy on marriage and our partners.

Is it easier to just divorce than work it out?  I can't believe that it would be easier to just give up one someone you have loved for so many years without trying to make it work.

My partner, Mike and I have only been together for 2 1/2 years and this by no means makes me an expert on relationships.  I know each day the two of us have to work at it.

Weddings offer so much hope.  The last wedding I assisted at, I actually got teary eyed.  There was this couple standing there, pledging their love together forever.  Maybe I am old fashion that way, I like to get misty eyed at weddings and believe that they are all going to live happily ever after!

I hope for all my brides and future brides may you all be blessed with happiness throughout your marriage.  But remember this...my grandmother gave me this advice....always keep the rolling pin handy!!

Till next time!

I was talking to a friend of mine who got married a few months ago.  He was telling me about his wifes train, he mentioned that he called it a trail because something that pretty doesn't deserve such a harsh word as train.  I tried to explain why it is called that but it didn't matter, he was still going to call it a trail.

He also told me of the training he went through being a groom.  I have never really thought about training a groom, as women, we have been training to be a bride for most of our lives.  I have never thought about the men being trained for their roles.

He told me that when he was picking out the tuxedo, he went to Tuxedo Royale and there was a book for the grooms.  He wanted to purchase it, however the store clerk said it was free for taking.  Better deal....in this book, it gives the guys pointers on speeches, how to toast, who to toast and what not to do....STEP ON THE TRAIL!!! TRAIN IN MY CASE...

He made every concerted effort not to step on his wives dress the entire day because that was her dream dress and he wasn't going to get it dirty.  He didn't want to upset her in any way shape or form.  He is the nicest guy and I treasure our talks.  He loves his wife dearly and it shows.

Guys, I would highly recommend seeing if your tuxedo shop has such a booklet and get it...it will save you a lot of grief if you say the wrong thing on your wedding day.  Have the groomsmen read it as well.  Couldn't hurt...

Remember this....train or trail don't step on the dress...until next time!

First I want to wish my family and friends a belated Happy Canada Day!!!  Secondly, I want to wish my family in the United States and my friends there, a Happy 4th of July.

I was going through some old photos and came across some of my families most recent weddings.  Ok, well a few years ago.  Haven't been many since.  I haven't been invited to any recently, lets put it that way.

Looking at the pictures put me right back to the day and the action of what happened.  The fun we had and the food we ate.  The laughs and memories.  To me that is a good time had by all.

I was fortunate enough by my cousin Stephanie when she got married to participate in her ceremony by doing a reading.  I don't remember the reading now, but I do remember every other aspect of the day.

I remember how hot it was.  I remember that he Bishop who married her parents some 40 years ago, married Stephanie to her now husband.  I remember the girls dresses, the flowers, her father in law starting to shed a tear as he read the first reading.

Her wedding was her.  Simple and fun.  She had some nice ideas for her wedding.  Cute centerpieces were different.  I don't remember flowers on the table, however i do remember a bowl and water and something floating....lol...I will fill you in later..maybe with a picture.

I am going to be expanding my webpage to show some pictures.  One idea I like at a wedding, candid shots.  Sometimes they happen at the right time, other times it happens but timing is off...well I have one shot that I love of Stephanie's wedding and I will show you on my expanded pages.

Till next time!!

oh, if you know someone who is getting married, remember I am available!!

I was an assistant yesterday to a wedding, I was helping out one of my fellow WPIC'ers....her assistant was not able to make it.  The wedding was beautiful.  Albeit very warm in the church.  The bride was in white, the girls in a pretty green and I don't like green but this was a very pretty green.  The flowers were pinks, greens and creamy white...the bride carried cala lilies...

The colour scheme was so pretty....flowers were simple in a square vase with matching colour menu cards and programs.  The whole wedding was very simple....Not over the top hoo haa...but simple and elegant....

The pictures were taken at the venue, perfect day for them.  The guests were in for a good night....they had the patio as well as the inside of the venue hall.

I think the only thing that would have bothered me about the day if it were my wedding would be the fact that a temporary dump site was just down the street...but I guess that shouldn't ruin ones day.

I guess my whole reason for this segment of my blog is that sometimes subtle is refreshing.  Simple, elegant and good weather...and that I can actually learn to like the colour green in the right shade.

I also have to give credit to my beloved partner, Mike, for a phrase he uses all the time.  I told him I would...hoohaa...although not his completely he uses it all the time....

Love you honey!!

until next time...enjoy the weather!!

Rain rain go away come back another day!!
that was the theme song this past wedding weekend...how many brides were caught in that downpour?  How many had pictures for outside at parks where they paid for a permit?  Many I presume....How many didn't have alternate arrangements?  Some don't, others are lucky that their hall can accomodate them.

So should a bride always have a back up plan for pictures in case of inclement weather?  I think so.  That is one thing we can not fully predict.  Yes the weatherman can say might rain but as a girl guide I was told you have to be prepared.  That means every contention should be thought of.

When my cousin got married several years ago....I don't know if they were to have pictures taken at a park, but they did have some taken at the hall.  Other than the usual cake one and a few others....I remember that day because this past weekend it was a repeat of that day.  It rained cats and dogs....the poor brides who paid for the permit but didn't have alternate plans....

Remember always make a back up plan for pictures in case of bad weather and let your planner and photography know what it is.

Till next time...enjoy summer and the wedding season....

It has been a few days since I have written on my blog...I have been busy, trying to promote my business and I have to say I am loving it.  I love being a Wedding Planner. The satisfaction of seeing the couple happy and in love and their dream wedding fulfilled is special.

I have watched Bridal shows on Tv for so many years that I should have done this a long time ago.  However, the timing wasn't right.  Why is the timing right now??  Well two reasons, I think that as we all get older, you wonder what you have done, you go to work and wonder why you are there in a job that someone else reaps the benefits.  Secondly, I am at an age where companies don't want you if you are shall we say a wee bit older than a younger person.

A friend of mine, when we got laid off at our company years ago, she put the money from her package into a coffee shop.  Banks didn't want to give them the money.  Well they proved everyone wrong, they have a great coffee shop and the satisfaction of knowing that they work for themselves.

Me, that is what I want.  I want to have the satisfaction of knowing that this is my business and my love.  I am doing something that I love to do.  As I have said in previous postings, my boyfriend, Mike, well I say he doesn't want to marry me.  However, one has to always be prepared for the unexpected.  My wedding is planned, just the date and time keep shifting...LOL...

I will keep you updated if Mike finally puts those cold feet to rest and proposes to me.

Till next time....have a great day!!

First I want to say that this is the anniversary of D-Day, I want to remind everyone it is important to remember our veterns of all wars and peacekeeping missions.

As this is the anniversary of D-Day and and day of remembering, I want to share photos of my parents wedding day back in the 50's.  My mother's dress was made by my aunt Bunny (Bernadette) for only $35.00...far cry from the thousands that we spend on dresses now.

My mother's dress was strapless and had a little jacket over it for the church service.....

One thing that never goes out of style....having a wedding cake.  No matter the size of the wedding, my parents had a home wedding, the day is always special.  Never lose sight of the day as just the beginning of your lives together.

As everyone knows I am a huge fan of Randy from Say Yes To The Dress....My good friends at TV Guide Canada had the opportunity to interview Randy about dresses.  Here is the interview used by permission from TV Guide Canada:

Dress code
By Katherine Flemming

Beauty Mark: Staking out fashion and beauty’s territory in television
Whether you’re the tying the knot, frequenting a few wedding soirées, or simply enjoy swooning over the lush, frothy gowns (like I do), prepare to be schooled in all the details of wedding dresses.Randy Fenoli (right), the fashion director at Kleinfeld Bridal on TLC’s Say Yes to the Dress, is devoted to the craft. “My only mission in life is to make these brides beautiful on their wedding days,” he says. “Brides ask me all the time, ‘If I was standing in a dress that you thought was hideous, would you tell me I look great?’ And I have to tell you, if she’s in love with what she sees, then I’m going to agree with her. All my rules are going to be useless if she doesn’t feel pretty in the dress.” Fenoli gave us the lowdown on wedding dress trends and how the perfect cut can make you look your best.
TOP WEDDING DRESS TRENDS
Texture: “A lot of dimension, a lot of texture, ruffles. A lot of ruching and draping — lace is doing really well. Ruching can be very forgiving, and sometimes lace can be, too.”Pockets: Need to hide your lipstick and blotting powder? “Pockets are a huge trend that started last season and is still continuing.” Have a ball: “The ‘50s inspiration of the Dior ball gown is still really prevalent,” says Fenoli. “We’re still seeing a lot of the natural waist and the big poofy skirts.”Fabrics: “Silk taffeta has come back into use, thank goodness. It’s very light and it’s fresh and easy to wear. Tulle is also coming back this season,” he says. “Different applications of tulle, like A-line tulle, shredded tulle skirts or even ball gown tulle skirts. If you can carry it off, why not?”Cocktail party: “There are a lot of short dresses out there, and it is definitely a trend, but when the girls come in into our salon, they try on short dresses but they don’t always leave with a short dress,” says Fenoli.Wedding cents: “Another trend out there, just this last season, is that the designers were a lot more budget-conscious, as they tried to sharpen their pencils with the prices.”Colours: “Ivory, off-white and white are still the most popular. Instead of going for colour in their gowns, brides are going for colour in their shoes. They’re like, ‘I’m wearing my Louboutins, my Guccis, my Manolos, my whatever.’ That’s where I suggest they use colour and spend $800 on a great pair of shoes that they can wear again, rather than spend $60 on a pair of Diablo shoes that look cheap and they’re never going to wear again.”BODY TYPES
“Every gown is different,” says Fenoli. “On the show, there was a girl that was fuller-figured. [Bridal consultant] Audrey pulled out this dress with tiers of organza, but it was incredible on her because that particular gown – the way it was cut, the way it fit – just worked.”So, use these recommendations as loose guidelines only, because as Fenoli says, once he sets the rules, “Here comes a dress to prove me wrong!” But one rule that always applies? Beware the proportions.Petite: “Generally, you want the bodice of the dress to be about one-third of the length of the dress. So if the bodice is dropped down to the hip line, if you’re five-foot-one, it may be cutting you in half.” If you’re still hankering for a drop-waist, look for high-drop waists, which hit just below the waist. As for the details, “You don’t want a huge bow, a huge flower or a huge print of lace,” he says. Fuller-figured: Fenoli admits he’s always asked this question. “That question cannot really be answered without asking “Is she plus-size and six-foot-one? Or is she plus-size and five-foot-one? Is she top-heavy, is she bottom-heavy, is she thick in the middle?” However, he says, “A-lines look good on just about anyone and any figure.”He adds, “If you are fuller-figured, lighter fabrics [like silk taffeta, organza and chiffon] usually look lighter on you, and they lighten the look.” But, he cautions, “You would have to be careful — it might be too light, it might look wimpy. But it depends on the dress.” Fuller bust: “I wouldn’t recommend a straight-across neckline. I would recommend a slight dip.” Although a true sweetheart can enhance the cleavage, Fenoli doesn’t approve of that. Pear-shaped: Look for gowns with A-line silhouettes or a ball gown if it hits you in the right place. Fenoli suggests making sure there’s not a horizontal line drawing along your widest part, whether that be your bust or your hips.THE DEVIL’S IN THE DETAILS
Necklines: “Maybe you want something at the tip of the shoulders that makes the shoulders appear broader and balances the hips,” says Fenoli. Sometimes the smallest alteration – like lowering the neckline, dipping it a quarter of an inch, raising the sleeve half an inch or bringing up the waistline – can completely change the look of the dress. It’s all about proportions.Considering halter straps? “If you have a big bust and square shoulders, suddenly you’re going to look like a football player.”Decisions, decisions: When in doubt, stick to classics. “If you’re stuck between two dresses, or you’re in a dress and you don’t know, ask yourself, ‘Would Audrey Hepburn or Grace Kelly have worn this dress?’ And if you can say yes, then you’re probably standing in the right dress.” Unless you love setting trends, in which case, you likely won’t be questioning yourself! “[The wedding dress] is the single most important garment a woman will ever wear, unless she’s going to be at the Academy Awards and wears a lot of formal dresses,” says Fenoli. “This is her Academy Award moment.”
Say Yes to the Dress airs Fridays, 10 p.m. ET on TLC.

Have you ever wanted to say let's just go and get married.  The old fashion elopement has taken a new twist.  Weddingmoon.  That phrase was coined from Sandals.  The leading resort that offers not only weddings, but your honeymoon all wrapped up into one.

I have been fortunate enough to be certified by Sandals Resort and to say that it looks amazing in pictures is an understatement.  No, I haven't been yet.  However, I am off to Turks and Caicos next month and so look forward to seeing the new Italian Villa at Beaches.

Pictures will be put on the blog of my whirl wind tour.

If you are looking for a destination wedding, please give us a call.  We will make your day at your location.

Enjoy your Victoria day and keep smiling.

My month has been made.  I talked to Randy Fenoli from "Say Yes To The Dress"  at Kleinfelds in New York.  He is the sweetest man alive.  I adore him and told him so.  I felt stupid after talking to him as I gushed like a school girl.  I told him how I agree with him on some brides choices of gowns.  Girls, if you go to Kleinfelds in New York and Randy makes a suggestion, listen to him.  He knows what he is talking about.  When selecting your gown, you may have the dream dress in your head but does it really suit your body type.  I love some gowns but I know with my body type they would not work for me.  Bridal consultants do know what they are talking about.  They can help you.  Just have an open mind.  They want to make you happy as much as you want to be happy.  Some of the suggestions they have made on Kleinfelds are to keep your group small.  Too many opinions can ruin the dress shopping experience.  It is nice to have people come with you  but you don't want to end up like some of those brides on that show and have 8 different opinions telling you what you look like.  In the long run, it is still going to be your day and you have to love what you are walking down the aisle in.  For me, I know when an outfit is coming home with me.  As soon as I put it on, it feels like it is part of me and says, Lorie, take me home!  Enjoy your bridal gown shopping, don't hate it...it is a once in a lifetime experience and you should love it.

How many times have we thought about the perfect bouquet?  You know your favourite flowers but do you know if they will be in season when you marry?  You can get your favourite flowers but it will cost you extra.  To cut down on the cost of flowers out of season, try for flowers you can either get all year long or what is in season.

Also remember if you are getting married at high wedding season or on a particular holiday, the flowers may end up costing you more money.  Valentines Day is a day for romance but those buds you pick will be more and you will have to make sure you order your flowers well in advance.

You want to make sure that you get them on time and that you will be stress free that day.

Most florists say 3 months is plenty of time to order your flowers, but again, high season, special days, order at least 6 months ahead.  Here is a listing of flowers in season.
